- Paths to College and Career
Paths to College and Career
A Comprehensive English Language Arts Curriculum for Grades 6–12
Paths to College and Career program was developed from the ground up to address the Common Core State Standards and reflects a deep understanding of the standards and assessments.
Each grade level includes four primary modules, and each module consists of up to three units with a set of lesson plans. The modules ground students' application and mastery of the standards within the analysis of complex text. The standards assessed and addressed in each module specifically support the study of the module text(s), and include standards in all four domains: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.
Modules are arranged in units comprised of one or more texts. The texts in each module share common elements in relation to genre, authors' craft, text structure, or central ideas. Each unit in a module builds upon the skills and knowledge students develop in the preceding unit(s). The number of lessons in a unit varies based on the length of the text(s). Each lesson is designed to span one class period, but may extend beyond that time frame depending on student needs.

Paths to College and Career includes 3 writing books: Argumentative Writing, Informative Writing, and Narrative Writing. These are the types of writing identified as important to learn in high school for college and career readiness by the CCSS. Each unit can be used for grades 9–12, and serve as companions to the other modules, but can also stand alone.
Taken as a whole, these modules are designed to give teachers concrete strategies to address the "instructional shifts" required by the CCSS.
The video provides instruction on navigating the content within the program and demonstrates how the program meets the evaluation criteria.
